Five bands on the gated index: degenerative (R* < 0 — capability is falling, whatever the architecture); not regenerating (R* = 0 — either static, B = 0, or architecturally foreclosed, G = 0, and the decomposition tells you which); emergent (0 < R* < 0.25); regenerative (0.25 ≤ R* < 0.5); fully regenerative (R* ≥ 0.5). The breakpoints are derived, not chosen: on a product, requiring both G and B to clear a floor θ puts R* at θ², so half strength on each gives 0.25 and 1/√2 gives 0.5.
R* = 0.30 is regenerative: both factors are at or above 0.5. R* = 0 is the one exact point on the scale — and it matters which side it comes from, because a static system can be improved by behaviour and a foreclosed one cannot.
