A contribution made by a CADA recipient to the deploying foundation that is explicitly structured as a voluntary charitable donation rather than as consideration for the use of the deployed asset. The distinction is the structural basis for excluding CADA from lease classification. It is not a deductibility argument — the contribution is not a deductible gift, and the instrument does not need it to be.
A hospital using CADA-deployed imaging equipment makes an annual contribution to the deploying foundation. The contribution is recorded and receipted as a charitable donation, not invoiced as a service fee or lease payment. The hospital is under no obligation to contribute.
